Basic Life Support (BLS)

The AHA’s BLS course trains participants to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations and provide early use of an AED. Reflects science and education from the American Heart Association Guidelines Update for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC).

Who should take this course?

The AHA’s BLS Course is designed for healthcare professionals and other personnel who need to know how to perform CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills in a wide variety of in-facility and prehospital settings.

What does this course teach?

  • High-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants
  • The AHA Chain of Survival, specifically the BLS components
  • Important early use of an AED
  • Effective ventilations using a barrier device
  • Importance of teams in multirescuer resuscitation and performance as an effective team member during multirescuer CPR
  • Relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (choking) for adults and infants

Per AHA Guidelines, each participant must have the current appropriate course textbook/manual readily available for use before, during, and after the course.To purchase your textbook/manual, please go to either of the following links:

Napa Valley College provides free public WiFi network access. This service is available for student use with a wireless device.

Upon successful completion of this course, participants receive an American Heart Association Course Completion eCard that is valid for two years.

CANCELLATION POLICY:

If you must cancel a "face to face" class that you have registered for, your cancellation notification must be received by email to ccattolica@napavalley.edu 48-hours prior to the class date and start time. If your notification is received 48-hours prior to the class date and start time, you will be able to reschedule your attendance at a future class at no additional charge. If you would like to request a refund, you will have up to 72-hours prior to the class date and start time to do so. Please note:  If you are a 'no show' at the scheduled class that you have registered for, this will result in your ineligibility to reschedule for a future class at no additional charge or to receive a refund for that particular class. You will be able to register for a future class and pay the full costs of that class. We reserve the right to cancel a class at any time for unforeseen circumstances.
